We seem to keep getting asked the question, “will solar work on my roof?” Since this seems to be a hot topic right now, we will do our best to address it. In order to have roof mounted solar in Oklahoma, you really only need to meet a few requirements.

Solar Prerequisites

• No Shading! If your roof is shaded during the afternoon then solar on your roof will probably not work. Shading really kills the output of a solar array. Solar panels need access to good, unobstructed sunlight in order to perform up to their specifications.
• South Facing Roof Line. Solar panels should be facing South in order to absorb the most sunlight throughout the day. If you don’t have a South facing roof, the panels will not be able to generate as much electricity as they could.
  

As you can see, there aren’t many prerequisites to having solar on your roof in Oklahoma. As long as you have a good South facing roof line and no shading, you should be a good candidate. If you don’t meet these requirements and have the land, ground mounting a solar array could still be a possibility. We will discuss solar ground mounts in a later post. With solar panel prices falling and electricity prices on the climb in the near future, maybe its time to consider solar for your roof in Oklahoma.
