Edmond Electric Rebates are Running Out!

November 9th, 2011 · Uncategorized

If you are a resident of Edmond, Oklahoma and have ever considered installing geothermal in your home, now is the time to do it. If your electric company is Edmond Electric and you install a new geothermal unit, you will receive $1,800 a ton in the form of a rebate. This makes geothermal in Edmond, Oklahoma, cheaper to install than a conventional unit. Let me reiterate that last point: It is cheaper to install the world’s most efficient, carbon reducing HVAC system in Edmond, Oklahoma, than it is to install a conventional, non-efficient, fossil fuel powered system. But only for a few more months…

The Oklahoma Comfort Program’s ridiculously high rebates end in March of 2012. But, the geothermal system basically must be up and running by the end of February of 2012 in order to receive the rebate. That means that a homeowner who wants geothermal only has a matter of weeks to get in on the rebates before the program is finished.

The 30% federal tax credit still applies to geothermal (and wind and solar) making the installation of a geothermal in Oklahoma the cheapest it has ever been. But, not for long, the rebates are running out soon. Act quickly, or the $1,800 a ton rebate will be history.

Geothermal SAQ’s — Should Ask Questions

November 8th, 2011 · Uncategorized

We field a large number of questions related to residential geothermal installations. Since we have been installers in Oklahoma for so many years, we generally know the questions that potential customers are going to ask before they get around to asking them. Most people ask basically the same questions centering around geothermal’s economic feasibility, durability and performance. These are all good questions, and we have compiled a list of the most common questions we field on our FAQ’s page. If you are considering installing geothermal (or solar or wind) in Oklahoma we strongly recommend that you start there.

Due to the present growth in our industry, more and more potential customers are asking us questions about our products. We have noticed recently that some of the questions that potential customers should be asking are going un-asked. With that in mind, we have compiled a list of SAQ’s, or Should Ask Questions, for potential geothermal customers. These are the questions that we feel potential geothermal customers should be asking HVAC contractors before they make a purchase. Because few purchases will effect the next 25 years of a homeowner’s daily life like an HVAC system, it makes sense to be sure you are asking the right questions. [Read more →]

Roof Mounted Solar in Oklahoma

September 20th, 2011 · Uncategorized

We seem to keep getting asked the question, “will solar work on my roof?” Since this seems to be a hot topic right now, we will do our best to address it. In order to have roof mounted solar in Oklahoma, you really only need to meet a few requirements.

Solar Prerequisites

  • No Shading! If your roof is shaded during the afternoon then solar on your roof will probably not work. Shading really kills the output of a solar array. Solar panels need access to good, unobstructed sunlight in order to perform up to their specifications.
  • South Facing Roof Line. Solar panels should be facing South in order to absorb the most sunlight throughout the day. If you don’t have a South facing roof, the panels will not be able to generate as much electricity as they could.

Oklahoma Rebates

Right now, all electric companies in Oklahoma are offering some sort of rebate for installing geothermal. Those rebates range anywhere from $375 a ton (OG&E) to $1,800 a ton (Edmond.) This is a great deal for the homeowner because the electric company writes the homeowner a check upon completion of the geothermal installation, which quickly makes up for geothermal’s higher up front cost. Vertical Axis Wind Turbines and Other Chicanery

Fake Wind Turbines

In the last week or two we have become aware of some wind turbine installations that are essentially big, “green” pinwheels. These installations will not produce the power the turbine is rated for at best, and at worst will generate minimal power. Unfortunately, the customer may never know how much money they wasted, if they were in reality purchasing the units to generate electricity and save money. [Read more →]
